Welcome to 7th grade English!

We have a busy and exciting year ahead of us!   Below is a snapshot of what we will be covering.

Reading:

We will cover short stories, drama, novels, and nonfiction reading this year. Also, using the Reading Counts program students will read at individualized levels and set personal goals.  All students are required to read at least 100 minutes outside of class each week and keep track of their reading on reading logs.  Please help your child monitor his/her reading at home.

Writing:

Along with journaling on a regular basis, students will use the writing process to create many different forms of composition.  They will write narrative, descriptive, persuasive, and informational essays.  We will also work on poetry, research and letter writing.

Grammar:

Mastering grammar in the English language is always difficult.  We will strengthen our skills and work on parts of speech, punctuation, correct usage, abbreviations, and proofreading.

Homework:

Approximately 15 minutes of reading should be considered your daily homework.  I do not typically assign other homework.  It is up to you to use class time wisely and to stay on task.  If your work is not complete when you leave my room, then it becomes homework.
